"Positive things happening in our communities"

"I know these are very worrying times for all of us with the Coronavirus crisis. But I wanted to update you on a couple of very positive things that are happening in our communities."

"First of all county-wide the County Council has set up a Community Help Hub. This is a point of contact if you want to offer help of some sort, if you're a business or an individual; if you want help yourself as an individual and you feel vulnerable or isolated; or if you're able to offer any other services.

"Now that Community Help Hub is based in Gloucester has a team of people there from 8am to 8pm weekdays and slightly less hours at weekends. It will still be there operating over this coming Easter weekend too - all the details are on the County Council website.

"Secondly, I wanted to thank all the volunteers in our villages and towns who are doing an absolutely superb effort. In Bourton-on-the-Water, for instance, there are 130, would you believe, street volunteers; one for each street. They're getting prescriptions for people, they're getting food for people and they are point of contact on the phone if people are feeling lonely and isolated.

"This is amazing and I know other villages like ChedworthAndoversford and in some of our towns too are doing the same thing.

"So two things to remember, if you feel lonely or isolated if you want something, there are street volunteers out there in our communities. Alternatively contact the Gloucestershire Community Help Hub.

"Thank you and keep safe."
